At New North Ventures, we take immense pride in our partnership with Headlamp and its unwavering commitment to empowering veterans on their journey from military service to civilian success.
Headlamp's innovative fellowships program is a great opportunity for veterans seeking meaningful employment to gain exposure to the private sector in areas of interest while also offering employers a chance to tap into a diverse pool of exceptional mission-oriented talent. Through initiatives like the SkillBridge program, Headlamp has facilitated seamless transitions for veterans into countless industries.
Headlamp recently assisted Adam Rubalcaba in his transition from service in the US Army to a thriving position as a Venture Fellow with us at New North Ventures, where he is sharpening his skills in identifying groundbreaking technologies, assessing market potential, and performing due diligence on prospective investment companies. Adam's journey highlights the effectiveness of Headlamp's personalized support and network, which not only facilitated his current success but also prepares him for future endeavors, including pursuing further education at Business School in the fall.
As proud supporters of Headlamp and its mission, we encourage employers to reach out to Headlamp to explore opportunities to augment their workforce by tapping into the wealth of skills and experiences that veterans bring to the table. By partnering with Headlamp, employers not only enrich their workforce but also contribute to the broader mission of supporting veterans' transition into civilian life.

White House Wants Chief AI Officers to Keep Federal AI Use Responsible
The White House has announced a groundbreaking policy aimed at ensuring the responsible deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across federal agencies. Under the new rules, each agency is required to designate a chief AI officer to coordinate AI implementation and compliance efforts. Additionally, agencies must create publicly accessible inventories of their AI systems, focusing on potential risks to safety and civil rights, such as those in healthcare and law enforcement decision-making.
This policy builds upon President Biden's earlier executive order on AI, emphasizing measures to promote safe and responsible AI development. One focal point of the policy is mitigating algorithmic discrimination, with a requirement for agencies to actively assess and monitor potential harms caused by AI systems. For example, travelers now have the right to opt out of facial recognition scans, addressing concerns about accuracy rates, particularly for individuals with darker skin tones.
While the policy aims to balance security and privacy concerns, experts caution that effective implementation and enforcement will be crucial. Additionally, while the regulations appear comprehensive, challenges remain in monitoring and enforcing compliance without stifling innovation.
