The growing geopolitical challenges posed by China and Russia require a united and strategic response from the U.S. and EU to safeguard democracy and a rules-based international order. Both nations are actively undermining global norms through economic, military, and technological means, seeking to expand their influence at the expense of democratic values.
A key part of the strategy to counter these threats is strengthening the transatlantic alliance, enhancing defense capabilities, and securing the digital domain against cyber attacks and foreign interference. Protecting global supply chains and countering disinformation are also critical components of a broader defense strategy.
Investment in emerging technologies like 5G, artificial intelligence, and semiconductors is essential to maintain competitive advantage and reduce vulnerabilities to Chinese and Russian influence. In addition, the U.S. and EU should promote democratic governance and expand partnerships with other like-minded nations to form a stronger coalition against authoritarian regimes.
The strategic collaboration between the U.S. and EU must be long-term and focused on reinforcing global stability while championing the principles of democracy, freedom, and openness. In facing these complex threats, a unified approach will help protect democratic values and ensure a free and open global system.
